Industry Assessment Centre
As a result of its pioneering work in craft skills training, the Screen Academy was asked by various leading film industry figures to become an assessment centre for the industry itself. With its mission to provide a two-way flow between industry and education, the academy was proud to accept the offer.
Using qualified assessors drawn from the industry, the Screen Academy at LCC & EIM assessment centre opened its doors at Pinewood Studios in autumn 2008 and began by assessing and awarding certificates to grips and electricians for NVQ level 2. At the same time, the centre began to address skills gaps by running courses for industry practitioners in areas that had not been addressed in their normal work; for example, workshops in car rigs and complex track laying.
The activities of the centre have been expanding rapidly and we will soon be assessing camera technicians, script supervisors, assistant directors and a number of other disciplines following closely behind.
Looking to the future, we believe that formal qualifications will soon be required throughout the industry as both Health & Safety legislation and foreign competition force the British Industry to upgrade its skills.
